Mission Statement
Massey University is New Zealand's largest educational and research institution and internationally recognised for its innovation and progressive approach in both teaching and research.
The University is committed to excellence and provides an environment in which international students are encouraged to excel.
Location and Facilities
Massey University was founded in Palmerston North in 1927 and its home campus is set amidst a picturesque 40-hectare park-like location (Turitea) and a specialised College of Education site (Hokowhitu) bordering the Manawatu River. Massey also has campuses in both Auckland (Albany) and Wellington.
The Palmerston North Campus is equipped with quality teaching and research facilities and includes student-accessible computer laboratories and an extensive modern library.
Academic Programme
Five major Colleges - Business; Design, Fine Arts and Music; Education; Humanities & Social Sciences; and Sciences, and their associated Academic Departments, Schools and Institutes provide a comprehensive, innovative and flexible range of Diplomas and Undergraduate and Postgraduate degrees (to PhD level).
A characteristic of many of Massey's professional degree programmes is their applied nature and close links with industry and professional sectors.
Study Abroad and Exchange students can study for one or two semesters at any campus across a wide variety of subject areas. The University offers a Foundation Studies Programme for students who require further academic qualifications for entry to degree programmes.
Pre-entry English language study is available and the Massey University English Language Centre at the Palmerston North campus is an approved IELTS testing centre.
Research
Palmerston North is the location for a significant number of government and privately funded research centres. The university works co-operatively with these centres in its role as a premier research institution in New Zealand.
Currently Massey University has the largest number of PhD enrolments of any New Zealand university.
Recreation and Leisure
The university has extensive recreation and leisure facilities, which are open for extended hours to all students and staff. These include a fully equipped gymnasium and outdoor facilities. Nearby is an international standard new all-weather athletics track and the Adidas Institute of Rugby, home to the New Zealand All Blacks rugby team.
