Location and Facilities

The Universal College of Learning is located in Palmerston North, Wanganui, Masterton and Levin. The UCOL International Centre is situated in Wanganui and all international student applications should be made to Wanganui UCOL, Private Bag 3020, Wanganui, New Zealand. International Officers are based in Wanganui and Palmerston North to assist overseas students with settling into campus life, including personal guidance and support and general information on adapting to living in New Zealand.

The educational programmes are supported by highly qualified staff, appropriate technology to meet your learning needs, and studio and classroom facilities of a high standard. Full time students have free Internet access.

Student Welfare/Support

Health Centres are located on both the Palmerston North and Wanganui campuses where nurses provide first-step medical advice. In UCOL 3.JPGWanganui a doctor's clinic is held 4 days per week.

Counselling on stress, health, education and learning support is also available to students. An Orientation programme is arranged for all students when they start their course.

Accommodation

Wanganui UCOL can offer both homestays and student flats, while UCOL at Palmerston North will arrange homestays for international students. Prices for homestays vary between $NZ150-175 per week, plus a one-time placement fee of $NZ150 per student.

Accommodation in the Wanganui student flats costs approximately $NZ90-100 per week.

English Language Support

English language is taught on both the Wanganui and Palmerston North campuses.UCOL 4.JPG

Basic, Intermediate and Advanced English courses are held daily, Monday to Friday. The courses incorporate all aspects of English language study: pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, listening, speaking, reading and writing, as well as English for further academic study. Enquire at the International Centre as to the most appropriate programme of study.

Applicant Details

To apply for a place on any of Palmerston North or Wanganui UCOL's courses, either email, phone or fax the address/ numbers given above. We can then send out an application form, the appropriate information brochure, plus details on how to apply for a student visa. When returning the completed application form enclose your academic transcript in English. Applications to Art or Design programmes should be accompanied by a suitable portfolio.

Extra Curricular Programmes

ESOL: At Wanganui UCOL there is an ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages) group for students wishing to attain the IELTS UCOL 5.JPGCertificate for further tertiary study.

Educational Travel: Short term programmes for schools that incorporate ESOL and the New Zealand experience. These programmes are designed to suit individual groups and are tailored to the needs of each individual school.
